SEO For Title Tags

Title tags are one of the most important aspects of search optimization on any website.  Titles are the first impression a surfer gets of your site when viewing search results. These tags are easy to edit and can have a huge impact on the amount of traffic you’re getting from search engines.  If you area already using a CMS platform managing your titles is super simple.  If you aren’t using a CMS, consider installing Wordpress 2.8.

The page Title should be the summary of your page in 63 characters or less.  You should research and focus in on keywords you want to rank for, then place the most important words closer to the beginning of the page title.  You can use  Google’s Keyword Suggestion Tool to see the most searched terms related to your blog or products.

It’s much easier to rank on phrases than single terms.  Even easier is ranking on phrases with a geography term thrown in.

For example:
It is easier to rank for “1969 Red Corvettes Indiana”  than “1969 Corvettes”, “Corvettes”, or “1969 Red Corvettes”. This has particular value to local service companies trying to rank higher in google for Roofing or Plumbing.

The earlier a word appears in the title, the more weight Google gives that word in your overall relevancy score.  If google sees other sites are linking to you using key terms from your aticle you will start to get a boost from “link juice”.
